Globus Theatre’s Capital Campaign

Globus Theatre is delighted to be celebrating over 20 years of producing professional theatre in the Kawartha Lakes. In 2003, James Barrett and Sarah Quick founded Globus Theatre and after producing 2 very well-received summer seasons began to look for a permanent home for the company. A suitable venue did not exist within the Kawartha Lakes but they knew this was where they wanted to be, so James and Sarah purchased a building and transformed it into the Lakeview Arts Barn.

The LAB provided Globus Theatre with a space to produce shows while paying no rental fees, ensuring that the revenue received from ticket sales, sponsorships and funding could be put entirely into production costs and growing the theatre company, a registered Canadian arts charity.

The LAB’s colorful evolution has seen it transition from its agricultural roots to a lively dance hall and to its present iteration, a 150-seat black box theatre that also serves as a social and cultural hub, proudly serving its rural region and beyond. In Summer 2023, Globus Theatre successfully raised 75% of a $2 million goal towards actualizing their dream of owning the LAB and its associated property.

The theatre is now expanding its fundraising goal to $2.525 million to secure ownership of the building, support long-term sustainability, and further invest in the theatre’s team and programs to ensure providing innovative and creative programming for the next two decades and beyond. The campaign is dedicated to upgrading the black box theatre, enhancing the overall production quality and audience experience in addition to expanding small-scale productions tailored for children as part of a commitment to youth engagement and cultural enrichment.
Beyond internal enhancements, the broader objective is to ensure that Bobcaygeon’s passion for live theatre not only endures but its local economy thrives, solidifying Globus Theatre as a cornerstone in the community’s cultural landscape and continued innovation in the performing arts.

We are entering the final stages of our campaign.

As we approach the season of giving, we want to extend our deep gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the Raising the Barn campaign. Thanks to your generosity, we are just $160,000 from our goal of purchasing outright our current venue The Lakeview Arts Barn.

We are thrilled to shine the spotlight once on Jim Daly, a true pillar of our Globus Theatre family. Jim wears many hats in his unwavering support for our theatre – volunteer on our campaign cabinet, donor, and patron. His dedication is truly inspiring! Hugh and Nancy Doggett

Dedicated patrons Hugh and Nancy Doggett are leading the charge in our Raising the Barn Capital Campaign, ensuring that our theatre’s legacy continues to shine brightly. Originally from Mississauga, the Doggett’s found a vibrant cultural scene right here in Bobcaygeon when they moved in 2017. They love Globus’ warmth, camaraderie and professionalism – and especially love not having to drive to Toronto for quality entertainment.

From the wit of Norm Foster to the intrigue of Murder Mysteries and the laughter of comedy nights with Canadian legends like Patrick McKenna, the Doggett’s revel in the diverse shows we offer. They proudly call Lakeview Arts Barn their second home.
Hugh is a volunteer on our Capital Campaign cabinet, and together, they are dedicated to our theatre’s growth.

Bill Lockington

Let’s give a huge round of applause to Bill Lockington, our new supporter this year, both personally and through his business LLF Lawyers!

Bill believes in the power of the arts – we do too! LLF Lawyers are big fans of our diverse shows that appeal to everyone, our location in Bobcaygeon, AND the fact that we’re a true hub for the community. They love the personal touch we give to every guest, from greeting you at the door to sending you off with a smile after the curtain falls.

Bill Lockington also loves how Globus Theatre helps bring people together for an affordable, unforgettable night out right here in the Kawarthas. We’re proud to be a cornerstone of the community and couldn’t do it without amazing supporters like Bill Lockington!

Susan Brown

Theatre-goer, supporter and arts advocate Susan Brown has been a cherished presence in our audience since our very first act. She’s not just a spectator – Susan is a cornerstone of the Globus Theatre community, standing as one of the inaugural members of our STAR Supporter program. Her love for Globus lights up our stage and her advocacy for the arts is a force to be reckoned with.
“What Globus did for our community during COVID was nothing short of unbelievable! Throughout the pandemic, they continually re-imagined how to provide our community with programs/entertainment notwithstanding the challenges ever-changing government restrictions presented. Buying the Lakeview Arts Barn will be Globus’ legacy - when Globus owns its venue, the community will be assured of continuous cultural events moving forward into the future - the community will always benefit.”

Bruce Gravel

Meet Bruce Gravel, a dedicated Rotarian and avid Globus supporter for two decades, along with his wife Frances. They discovered Globus in our second year, drawn by the people and performances, especially comedies. They sought laughter with a message and discovered our dinner theatre packages to boot!

They appreciate the air-conditioned venue for housing summer theatre without contending with bugs and weather! Bruce is thrilled about our Raising the Barn campaign and we’re humbled by him highlighting the wonderful people at Globus.

Jelle and Karen Visser

Bobcaygeon residents Jelle and Karen Visser are long-time supporters and passionate theatre enthusiasts and have generously contributed to our campaign, showcasing their unwavering dedication to the arts. “I’ve always had theatre in my heart,” said Mr. Visser. “Supporting various theatre clubs and productions has been a joy, and I believe theatre is essential for creating a livable and vibrant community.”

Dan and Joyce Jackson

Dan and Joyce have experienced firsthand our commitment to engaging the community beyond theatre performances. One of their grandchildren had a blast at our summer camp, participating in a downtown murder mystery with other young students.

As longtime supporters, Dan and Joyce look forward to our upcoming shows and say they often plan their calendar around our performances! They see us as a gathering place for the community to come together and enjoy theatre and the arts – and we couldn’t agree more.

Thank you for your incredible support and for helping us keep the arts alive in our community!
